People freaked out as Trump’s Twitter follower count dropped to only 4,000On November 3, 2017 by Maybell
Hours after it was restored, U.S. president Donald Trump’s Twitter account still struggled with technical issues, as its follower count dropped drastically to 4,000.
The account was shortly restored to its previous 41 million followers, but panic had already ensued.
Trump’s account had been taken down for 11 minutes on Thursday, as the Twitterverse freaked out. Twitter later discovered it was done by a customer service rep who deactivated the account on their last day at work.
About five hours after the account was restored however, Trump’s follower base reflected a startling number, plunging to just 4,000 followers at about past midnight in NY.
Naturally, conspiracy theories abounded.
Perhaps that’s minus the bots 😉

No, that’s just the non bot accounts.

Bots or otherwise, it looks like it was just a caching issue that happens when accounts are deleted and then restored, according to Tatiana Oliveira Simonian, who worked at Twitter in 2013.
When you deactivate an account it zeroes out then will repopulate over next 24-48. Sincerely, ex twitter employee
